The 1930 3 Pence is a nice addition to my British collection

If you got those for $2 total then you did great.

    That's an understatement!

That 1891 penny is quite sharp! Not the usual "slick Vickie" one sees in junkboxes! I'd say that would go XF by US standards (not British standards).

    Yeah $2
Only had half hour to look through the box
He didn’t want to take quarters or break a $20 bill so I’m running an account

Dealers who don't think foreign coins are worth their time are both a blessing and a curse. It's great because you can get some great deals, but it's not helpful if you can't get them to sell to you because they don't think it's worth it.

At $2 the lot, I think you're in epic cherrypick territory.

Well, maybe not epic (I've found 3-figure coins for pennies, for example), but semi-epic. You did great!!!

Junkbox diving for World coins is a sheer joy when you've got material like this in there.

That’s the kind of epic I mean! I’ve had a handful of cherrypicks like that over the decades.

Maybe five years ago I decided to finance my entire collection from that point on just from the profits from selling coins. I do what the OP does and find deals in junk bins and sell them on eBay. Not only have I been able to pay for all my subsequent purchases but I have a substantial amount in the bank. If you have the knowledge, the patience and the right dealer you can go far.

It’s exactly how I built my collection for the first decade or two. Cherrypick, sell, swap… keep trading up. And you learn a lot along the way.

Stopped back to pay my $2. Seems some guy named Powell, maybe Jay had decided to free the beast. Silver & gold going higher, FUN show coming up. Everyone was giddy. Only had a few minutes.
Me, I just picked another $2 from the junk box. The 1943 Netherlands 25c is .640 silver
