Found this 1982 P DDR Copper penny yesterday. Probably have some extra value but could not find one on Ebay or online anywhere. Thought I would check here.
Alurid gave you the direction. The appearance of doubling is many times more often than an actual doubled die. A true doubled die will have the same "height", where as others are flatter from various movement of a die. The 1955 cent below is a true doubled die ( due to the mint workers letting the master die move a tiny bit between 2 squeezes. Notice they are the same height and can merge when crossing. ya know as a mint error its still a unique find interms of being a mint failure , I still like it , cool sorry its not the error everyone is looking for.
Thanks for this explanation, it finally made it CLICK for me. I don't really search for or collect any double dies in particular but I do know I've found some machine doubling examples before, similar to the OP's coin.
