Howdy all, So I picked up this Proof American Innovation dollar. I don't really collect these but being both from NH and being interested in video games, I thought it worth having one. So that being said, I finally got around to taking pics and putting it in a 2x2 today and I noticed a big mark on the edge of the coin. I could EASILY feel it with my finger. I tried to take a picture of the mark, I'm not sure if you can tell I had trouble keeping it in focus. (see below) Really I'm just curious as to how this happens? Is it getting snagged on something when they do the incuse edge? Like I say it's a pretty good line with some material sticking above the coin.
Ok I suspected something like that, I have some presidential and native american ones as well and just haven't noticed it before, this one's very prominent. Thanks for the education guys
I believe it was an available piece made before they were actually put out before going on sale. Like first strikes.
Not really, most of these were given as gifts from a show to bring you to the TPG's table. My Son has two moderns, I think one is a presidential dollar and the other is a 2018 Cent.
It’s a form of advertising by the TPG. NGC and PCGS along with others, are in competition with each other. If a change is made in the slab they usually do some samples of inexpensive coins. In a lot of the cases, the coins do not receive a grade. See @paddyman98 sample slab above. No grade but it describes the coin.
