Another OBW roll find, my buddy sent me all his end coins from several hundred rolls. A friend indeed! One mans trash......hehehehe
One of the best end rollers of the batch! You can easily see a square around the head and what the paper did to the rest of the coin. Rainbows everywhere! Got lucky and it had a decent reverse too.
It’s amazing how proof-like the 1916’s can look. I had to go look up the registry to look up @robec ’s cent, to see that it was not actually a proof. I got this one a couple of years back for only $16.50 from an eBay seller with notoriously bad photos. I would love to have the matte proof, but I would rather have this business strike than a mediocre proof.
I should have mentioned that the 1916 obverse was re-engraved and is the best of the series. Here, for comparison, is a 1958 proof. All the fine detail is worn away, leaving the proof with a liquid-like surface. (Which I also really find attractive.) You can also see this master hub wear on the images @BadThad posted above.
Such a great strike on this 1916. Some are still being discovered in circulation, or at least in MS holders.
Getting ready to go thru a bunch of rolls my Bro brought me from Kansas, 8 rolls of reds. Should be fun. There are some darker edges that you can see, hoping for some toners.
GOOD LUCK! I am quite fortunate to have a friend looking for 67+ red coins from OBW rolls - he doesn't care about the rest of the coins. A couple of months ago he scored some 500+ Lincoln OBW rolls from a dealer looking to purge. He's ripping every roll looking for ultra gem coins to send to PCGS and I'm the primary beneficiary for the toners he finds.
I have him looking out for any 55S' that have this florescent green toning. So odd, it's the only issue where this type of toning is so prevalent.
