    Howdy all,

So I picked up this Proof American Innovation dollar. I don't really collect these but being both from NH and being interested in video games, I thought it worth having one.

So that being said, I finally got around to taking pics and putting it in a 2x2 today and I noticed a big mark on the edge of the coin. I could EASILY feel it with my finger. I tried to take a picture of the mark, I'm not sure if you can tell I had trouble keeping it in focus. (see below)

Really I'm just curious as to how this happens? Is it getting snagged on something when they do the incuse edge? Like I say it's a pretty good line with some material sticking above the coin.

That is from the start finish of the edge roller that stamps/strikes the details.

Ok I suspected something like that, I have some presidential and native american ones as well and just haven't noticed it before, this one's very prominent.

    Thanks for the education guys

Very nice, pardon my ignorance but what's the significance of it saying SAMPLE?

I believe it was an available piece made before they were actually put out before going on sale. Like first strikes.

Not really, most of these were given as gifts from a show to bring you to the TPG's table. My Son has two moderns, I think one is a presidential dollar and the other is a 2018 Cent.

It’s a form of advertising by the TPG. NGC and PCGS along with others, are in competition with each other. If a change is made in the slab they usually do some samples of inexpensive coins. In a lot of the cases, the coins do not receive a grade. See @paddyman98 sample slab above. No grade but it describes the coin.
