I rarely get "S" coins here in MA., and never in this shape. Today I opened a bank roll and this rolled out. Not sure what's going on here but I think the date is doubled, and the motto is insanely thick (doesn't look like die deterioration to me). Several of the letters in the motto seem to have been cut at a 45 degree angle. Any ideas? Thanks: Lou
The abnormalities you mention like the tilt on the IGWT may be caused by a tilted and/or mis-aligned die. Really just a guess on my part. The other things are somewhat normal for a 1968 LMC, mostly due to it being the last year of use of a stretched and worn out master die. I think the working dies that struck your coin where well worn dies. Lots of die scratches on both sides.
Nice find for the East coast Lou. I agree with what has been posted. This was the last year before the dies were modified.
