Me and my dad are headed to the bank this week got to get the gold coins out of the safety deposit box and they're mine Went out to dinner with my dad Thursday the family's fighting so bad he said time to get rid of stuff that's not in his trust So me and him are headed to the bank yippee-kai He has five of the best Graded coins for early commemorative gold I'll get pictures up this week these are some very beautiful coins money was no object for him
Can't wait to see, sorry for the family issues. It's a common problem when inheritances are involved, it's a shame.
We'd love to see them when you can get photos. Yeah, family fighting is no fun. sorry to hear that especially around the Holidays.
Good for your dad! Nice to get them now. Just be careful who you tell about it. There is a annual value limit above which the giver is supposed to pay gift tax. I think it's anything over $17k for 2023 for all gifts combined for each recipient. One nice thing about coins is there is no trail, like registration or title transfer, which isn't the case for things like vehicles or real estate. Enjoy the coins! Cal
Piece of advice, if I may? . . . ask the bank if they've got another SDB available for you to rent. Keeping a modest collection at home is one thing. If you're talking about an awful lot of value in these coins it might be money very well spent to keep them in a more secure environment, at least until you've decided to move them on.
Pretty simple to hide a few gold coins. I guarantee nobody would find mine unless they did a demolition on my house.
I too am anxiously await the revel. I have all the 1903-04, 1916-17, but missing the $1.00 1915s pan-pac to fit between the .50 and 2 1/2 . Sadly no slugs in my set octagon or round!
The Pan-PAC dollar is one of the more common commemorative gold dollars, but it still costs close to $1,000 or more for a nice one. If you have the Pan-Pac quarter eagle, that is an expensive coin in any grade. Among the rest, the two Grant commemorative gold dollars and the Philadelphia Sesquicentennial $2.50 are easy to find, but since they are gold, not cheap. The 11 piece “old gold” commemorative set does make for an impressive display.
A caveat should be noted, that Safe Deposit Boxes have no insurance coverage, and are often inaccessible because access is relegated to an individual, or maybe a seldom utilized key can't be located, etc..... A vacuum sealed container with desiccant, stored in a secure property location (e.g. old vehicle), has been found preferable by individuals to whom I've assisted with storage design. JMHE
