Right, collecting coins can get expensive. The same applies to quite a few other things, from traveling to shoes. Have you talked about a monthly (or maybe annual) budget? Christian
Watch it, Frank! You're liable to have someone complain that you're driving people away from here. Chris
Listen to her. Your marriage is more important. Lack of proper communication and improper use of monies can cause problems.. Take this good advice from me. I'm divorced!
Look for coins in your collection you wouldn't mind selling. If she sees a little return it will help calm her concerns.
Stop buying a bunch of coins. Buyer fewer but at much higher grades It really all comes down to hobbies. What hobbies does she have that she spends money on, versus yours. Where are monies spent? bar? online? sports? etc develop a budget (as mentioned above) and make sure you secure any valuables from any hobby.
Find a niche where you can buy coins to resell at a profit, and use the profit to buy coins you want to keep. Worked for me with my wife
My wife knows (and understands) that my collection can be cashed in for at least part (80-90%) of what I paid. Her international vacations only result in pictures and memories which have no cash value. I don't begrudge her trips; she doesn't begrudge my coin purchases. She'll eventually benefit from my purchases. I plan to die with the collection intact and I'm pretty sure that I will be the first to go.
Paddy is right happy wife happy life. I'd know I've been married three times. Just give yourself an allowance of some kind that you both can agree too. My wife complains about the paltry amount I spend on coins as well the same goes for guns ammo whatever it's a woman thing we'll never understand em.
We should start a support group. "Hi, my name is Dougmeister, and... my wife thinks I spend too much on coins." "Hello, Dougmeister." I can't even begin what that 12-step program would look like... nor do I want to ;-)
I let my lady spend what she wants and I do the same. We both know what we can afford and keep it all in balance. We have had over 30 years to practice.
If your wife is like many wives (or girlfriends), she probably knows everything. So, try convey to her how much money you have saved on a set of encyclopedias.
