Good morning! I’d love to get some input on these three mercury dimes that came to me as part of a complete set in an intercept shield album. These are three that are better dates with the full band designation. I feel like all three are clear example of the uninterrupted bands (tough to accurately capture in a photo, much easier under a loop while manipulating the coin). My main question is on grade. I know it’s tough from a photo, but I’d love to hear thoughts on each. I am not versed in the type so I do t no distinctions between 63/64/65/66 Thanks!
Wow, nice looking specimens! I'll offer my opinion on these to some degree. I've learned long ago not to offer grade opinions based on pictures. I must have it in hand to do that, but I think you will be OK in the MS category on all three. Regarding the FB designation, based on your pics, I think you are only good on the 1916. Or to put it another way, if I were looking only for FB specimens, I would only be in on the 1916. Again, this is based on the pics that I see. JMHO
You don't need to be unless you're trying to assess what a particular TPG might give it, in which case you'd have to be versed in them. When in MS, it's just the contacts and luster, from a technical grading standpoint. And when you're in that high, gem or near gem, as are these, we're really "grading" photography, while assuming a lot. On these, you're in the MS64-66FB range. Best I can say off this photography.
