It's been a while since I did one of these sprawling megathreads wherein I post my entire collection. Here's the latest, just for fun. ~RWS The Eclectic Hundred This collection is intended to be a sampling of world history in 100 certified coins. Since its scope is limited to a hundred pieces, it is not truly representative of the whole history of coinage, but I do try to collect coins from as many places and periods in history as possible. Some categories are more heavily represented, due to my preferences. For example, you’ll see a lot of Greek and Roman pieces in the Ancients, because that’s what I like. Because I am an American, you’ll also see multiple United States coins. This collection follows the popular certified “Box of 20” concept- except it’s a “Box of 100”. This means that to limit the collection to 100 pieces, I am forced to remove one coin every time I want to add a new one. This can be very challenging, but the selection process hopefully results in a gradual improvement in quality as time goes on. Coins are displayed in chronological order. Photos are not shown to scale. Thank you for taking the time to view my collection. All are really nice. My favorite is the United States: 1851-O silver 3-cent piece, Type 1. There is something special about coins with the O mint mark. Always thought about building a type set around it.
Great photos, thanks for sharing. I really like that 1813 Capped Bust Half Dollar. I have always loved those.
Boy I guess !! That took some work ! And yet that amount of work is dwarfed by the time period your set covers - over 2,400 years ! Impressive !
Greece (Attica): ca. 440-404 BC silver "Owl" tetradrachm of Athens Is perhaps my favorite of all those awesome coins listed. United States: 1836 gold Classic Head half-eagle and United States: 1799 silver Draped Bust dollar are also terrific!
WOW! Stunning, Rob! Thank you for sharing. You have an exceptional eye for quality pieces. I'd enjoy walking the bourse floor with you.
That is an impressive collection with an inspired theme. You've done an outstanding job of finding very nice coins to represent the many eras and jurisdictions.
Thanks. I got such a red hot deal on that Owl (in a four-coin lot), that it ended up being essentially free to me, given the value of the total lot. The 1799 dollar, on the other hand, I had to grossly overpay for in order to win it. I guess it balances out, sorta.
