The 2016 bullion ASE's have a reeded edge. They've been out for awhile (since January?): http://www.apmex.com/product/93754/2016-1-oz-silver-american-eagle-bu

The Uncirculated and Proof versions will have edge lettering. IMO a big deal -- part of a new law, one-year-only. Not released yet. I expect they'll be very popular.

Are you worried about missing the release?

Do the "Product Enrollment" offered by the U.S. Mint. Your order will be placed automatically.

Garlicus Debt is dumb, cash is king.

I've been enrolled for about 6 years. Just wondering if anyone heard about the cause of the delay, expected release date, etc...

A month later, and still nothing.

I called Customer Service today, and the rep said that there still is no ETA, but the delay is caused by the design change for the 30th anniversary. Edge lettering is the only change I've heard about, but why would that cause such a delay?

Conspiracy theory, lol - they have them produced already, just waiting for the price of silver to go up more, so they can get a higher profit (not that they don't already significantly mark up products)

My thought exactly. They want to strike while the iron or should I say spot price is hot.

The mint IS an inept bunch of fools but to make us believe that a miniscule edge lettering change is the cause for a delay of almost the entire year seems beyond rediculous even for them

Maybe they are waiting for the actual 30th anniversary. The 1986 eagles came out during the latter half of the year. :)

And who knows it may be more difficult than you think to do the edge lettering. Smaller coins can be done with a three piece segmented collar but it may be necessary to use more than three for a coin the size of an ASE and it may be causing problems.

I would think that as the coin gets larger if you stay with three segment you may run a greater risk of smearing the letters near the ends of the segment during release. More segment may give you problems getting them to align correctly as they come back down into position to strike the next coin.

Plus it's not like they haven't been doing edge lettering already. Granted a silver eagle is bigger but this isn't their first edge lettered coin.

I just hope that the edge lettering is better than on the golden dollars, which is terrible.

They need to make it look good!

According the mint website, both proof and unc will have the W mint mark.

Guys, the 5oz ATB pucks are edge lettered. So unless they can do small & large but are somehow having trouble with medium, that's not the case. The pucks are made on a special press specifically for them but still.

They couldn't do FB on a gold dime, so can we really rule out that they can't figure out medium?

On the hopeful side, maybe with the trouble they're having, a few errors will make it out and I'll get one/some

I love these coins but I don't see the point of edge lettering. I'm not taking it out of the capsule.

Very interesting! I had completely forgotten about these special ASE's.....The Mint actually has more than a few interesting items ready to drop this year; such as the 2016 High Relief Silver Medal, the gold SLQ & Walker and of course all the Coin & Chronicles sets with reverse proof Presidential Dollars. Can't wait for them to open up the floodgates!

Oh dear, well we wouldn't want that to happen!
Isn't that funny, I'm so used to the Quarter stuff, I was rather expecting another handful of these things. Just Regan to go, eh? That should be a good one!
