I found an Early half dollar which graded CACG VF details - scratched… there was a green sticker on the label though…!? Boy, I am confused now!?
I haven't be seen any, but I saw many at the last show I was at. Prices seemed to me to be about on par with PCGS, maybe a bit more. I can't recall anything that seemed to me to be way over priced.
Don’t be confused, the green bean on the insert is their identity. It is a part of the insert just like Gold Shield is on the PCGS insert. The coin was graded by CACG, whether it scored MS or Details, it gets an insert with the CAC icon as part of the label.
I picked up a generic MS63 dollar CACG for about 95 pct CAC CPG from eBay dealer. Many of the CACG coins are grossly overpriced vs the CAC CPG MV per CDN.
Isn't it just another certification that gets stickered on the outside of a previously graded coin, in addition to the original graded service? That's my understanding of it. Supposedly it's additional insurance that the grade is legit. Honestly it's overkill unless you've got a rare high quality grade IMO and you are trying to sell it online.
You’re talking about the CAC original service. They applied stickers to both NGC and PCGS slabs if they fit the criteria. CAC now has branched out to grade and slab their graded coins. CAC is the sticker service, CACG is the grading service complete with the plastic slab. There is no sticker, but the icon of the sticker is on the insert inside the plastic.
Collectors that obtain copies of the C.D.N. documents often don't understand that these expensive documents are intended to show the current WHOLESALE Dealer to Dealer pricing for Numismatic products. They are not intended to be used by collectors who don't meet the stringent requirements of some states that require state liability bonding and reporting of "trades". It's believed that the documents are often "Dealer Wish Lists" of many coins that haven't been recently traded/even-exist! Regardless, without universal grading standards, how can one state that the pricing/reports are inaccurate? I have MS60-61-62 TPG CAC certified Gold coins that are believed grossly under-graded with green-gold "beans"! JMHO
It's believed, that if CACG is going to slab "detail" coins, having multi-colored (i.e. green-gold) beans, they should apply a BLACK "CAC icon Bean" to "detail" certified coins! JMHO
CPG is the CDN retail value based on CDN Bid resulting in a reliable retail pricing tool. The CAC CPG is for CAC material. CAC premiums can be considerably higher than non CAC.
The Coin Dealer Newsletter (e.g. CDN Greysheet), according to integral preface report, it states there isn't a relationship to retail bidding. The report states the figures are strictly wholesale Dealer to Dealer exchange values, unrelated to retail bids. It's possible one of us is confused with an understanding of CDN values, and any relationship to retail Numismatic transactions. JMHO
The only time that I have had my coins graded, was when I bought a couple of gold coins from the dealer. They were raw. He suggested that I have them graded and it just so happened that he was going to a show. The grading cost me about $60 for both. One coin was a gold Half Ounce Liberty Head. It was graded MS61. The other coin was a One Ounce gold Liberty Head. It came back UNC DETAILS, OBVERSE SCRATCHED. If I like a coin, I buy it, graded or not, but I won't send another coin to be graded. I'm a collector, not a trader or seller.
I've been seeing them on GC auctions. I like the slab. The bean isn't a sticker on those. It's the logo on the slab label.
I called the CAC logo a “sticker” earlier in the thread to keep things easy, knowing it wasn’t really a sticker. Sorry if this caused confusion.
There should be a designation between TPGS in the gray sheet at least I think so as prices can vary several hundred dollars are more just by what slab there in, for instance a coin in a PCGS slab will always sell more in an NGC slab and allot more then others like ICG or ANACS, I know by the coin not the holder but it’s hard to make leap if your paying a higher premium !
