I have my ideas, but want to see what the forum thinks. One of the odd things I found when sorting through my newly acquired collection.
I do not think it is a mint caused damage. Some dealers test for silver with nitric acid , and if left on too long by the tester it can leave a cavity. Some people test at home and all they need is a phone call to forget the acid. Not anything good. IMO still worth silver value.
Not sure what to think. If not for the 3 bullet like holes, I'd have been more excited. Looks like intentional damage. That crack is interesting though. Let's see what more people think. It's possible something was on the die when it got struck but I'm thinking not.
Trust your instincts and trust us, we won’t steer you wrong. Don’t trust YouTube. Remember this: “There are a limited number of ways to produce coins at the Mint, including those ending up as true errors. However, there are a gazillion ways for Post-Mint Damage (PMD) to happen”…imo…Spark
From the flattened spots on the reverse I'd say certainly someone struck it (post mint), whether with a press, pellet gun, or something else is anyone's guess.
You can see on the reverse side where the holes almost went completely through. There are 3 raised spots on the reverse side. A camera won't show that though.
