I got stung about 15 years ago. It was my fault. I didn't do my homework. I bought a roll of 20 Morgans from Mike for $500. I doubt they were $500 then nor now. They were 1921 Morgans, but it was nice to find a D and an S to match up the 2021 Morgans D and S. Anyway, I've given most of them to my grandchildren for birthday presents.
Yes, as we speak, I'm going threw some coins that my sister has. There are coin sets that my father had where he purchased in his later years. The coins are packaged like proof sets but are business strike coins in plastic holders similar to US proof sets. As soon as I saw them, I was shaking my head and kind of PO'd that my father was taken by someone with no morals. There is one set that the Kennedy half dollar is barely recognizable because of the face scratches. I told her that the the box of twenty sets is worth about five dollars over face value; I can't imagine what my father paid. Please take care of the elderly, 2.1 billion dollars have been scammed from elderly people over the last 2 years and the FBI isn't going to help you after the money is out of the US jurisdiction. Regard.
I'm 74, soon to be 75. Am I "elderly" yet? Luckily, I haven't lost too much from my purchases, if any.
I'm not familar with "Barry @ Art TV"; another infomercial show ? I didn't know Rick worked for someone else. This was back in 2014. Yeah, the coin was alot less away from the TV. That's surprising that he's selling that high above retail in his Ebay store. On TV, with impulse buying, you can be above FMV. Not sure he can do that as much on Ebay, certainly not with savvy buyers aware of the Greysheet, HA, GC, etc.
Danbury Mint: Got an offer in the mail to get all 28 Morgan Dollars from every year of minting....no reference to condition....some mintmarks, some now......$160 per coin. They guarantee you at least 1 coin from every one of the 5 mints (Denver, SanFran, New Orleans, Philly, Carson City). They each come in what looks like a generic ungraded NGC holder and all 28 are in some wooden holding case. I doubt any coins are higher than AU-53 or AU-55 and most probably much lower, especially the CC.
It depends on how much you have to spend on "your numismatic budget". I see these guys pitchin their crap as I flip thru the cable TV stations and I wonder; does anybody actually buy this stuff. Apparently so. All you have to do is plug-in the graded certificate # and it will give you an "estimate" of value from the grading company, even though that's often overpriced as well. Most often the price is double what NGC / PCGS list the value at.
In general coin shows suck ! nice entertaining value but will never buy from one most that I have seen use off cuff grading services like ANACS, I am strictly a PCGS guy so that wouldn’t work for me.
All one has to do is turn the channel or shut the TV off. I can't stand rip-off people and shows like that! Dishonesty seems to be the sign of the time these days.
