It's interesting that the 4's have two colors. The most obvious being in the doubling below the horizontal bar in the two 4's. It's likely nothing, but it's the first time I've seen it. I'd be grateful for an explanation of it. Thanks
1944 was during WWII and the mint pushed the dies to the point of total wear out. This is one of the things that occurred during this time. Remember that steel cents were used in place of copper the year before. WWII crested a number of problems with our economy and our coinage.

Well, it's not our fault. LOL 44's can be a real challenge. If a person looked at the DDO's for the year, they look quite a bit like the one pictured. With out the rest of the details, it is only his loss.
