Almost depressing to finish a set. The excitement of the hunt is over. Nothing left but to admire the finished set. But it sure does look good.
First of all, Congratulations on your accomplishment. Nice set of coins. And a nice concept for a collection. Secondly, don't you just hate that? It took me forever to read Patrick O'Brians last Aubrey/Maturin novel because I knew there wouldn't be anymore, even though I really wanted to read it. And I'd have to find a new favorite author.
Very nice set, Randy! I know the feeling of completing a set you've been working on. Almost bittersweet.
Nice looking set, gotta love those war nickels as well as steel cents. I guess we probably all feel the bittersweetness at least to some degree when a set is completed.
I only have one set that I am working on... the American Silver Eagle Coins from Philadelphia (P), San Francisco (S), and West Point (W).. Proof, Bullion, Reverse Proof, Burnished, Enhanced Reverse Proof, V75 Proof, 2021 Heraldic Eagle Bullion, Heraldic Eagle Proof, Heraldic Eagle Reverse Proof, Flying Eagle, Bullion, Flying Eagle Proof,....etc. Thank goodness for John Mercanti's American Silver Eagle 4th Edition, as well as the many entries from members of Coin Talk. I'm also entering into my collection, sets that include ASE's. It's a Long Lonely Road, but thankfully, there has already been work on ASE's. Again, thanks. If I am mission anything, please let me know.
@Jim Dale In case you were not aware, there are some very complete checklists available. Collector Checklists • Liberty Coin (libertycoinservice.com) They are free and print nice.
I just started a WW2 set myself a couple weeks ago. What I like is there's no way to do this wrong. I'm aiming for a more traditional complete date/mm set. Not too interested in the varieties, just want very nice examples that I can afford for each denomination. Again, the beauty of this hobby is we're both correct in how we're collecting them. Congrats on finishing a beautiful set, enjoy them... the need for the hunt will return soon enough... lol
I have yet another focus on the set. My collections are raw, found in the wild. I like coins that had to work for a living. But, the advantage I had was that they were all readily available in circulation when I was young.
I stopped collecting ASE's when the change was made. But here is what happens with a passion for them.
@Randy Abercrombie did anyone get back to you on the cards you wanted for your War Nickel set? I hope you will post the completed display when the cards are included.
Yes! @lordmarcovan did them up for me and they are awesome. Background is the flag raising at Iwo Jima. I’ll post them. They are still on my desk at work
These are the inserts that @lordmarcovan made for me. They are totally perfect. I have some laminating sheets for them but I am awaiting the actual lined box so I can cut and size them properly.
