    Sultan Mustafa IV 1807-8AD
Mustafa usurped power in 1807 from his Uncle (Sultan Selim III) His reign was a disaster/ which led to open rebellions against his illegitimit rule. As rebels stormed his palace/ he ordered the murder of his Uncle and his Brother Mahmud in the Topkafi Palace/ to show the rebels that he was the sole heir to the throne. Selim was killed/ but Mahmud skillfully hid from Mustafa's assassins. Later/ as the rebels still demanded Mustafa to step down/ Mahmud came out from hiding and was declared Sultan by the people. Once Sultan he had Mustafa executed. lf - 2023-10-19T213310.517.jpg lf - 2023-10-19T213252.830.jpg

Which proves that modern mints can produce beautifull coin designs. Sadly most modern era coins are not worth collecting/ due to their stupid designs/ "Batman/ colored coins....German coins which were fantastic in 1500-1871/ have gone downhill/ as Swiss/ Canadian../
    Swiss 2022 1/4 Franc
Swiss/ Basel 1700 AV 25 Dukaten (which I DO not own/ but can dream about) I would not bother ordering first coin ever/ but had I lived in 1700 Basel/ lined up for 24 hrs at the mint to buy a freshly struck 25 Dukaten coin! Finally, a date where I can do something. Peck in his 1958 volume on British copper stated that how Taylor made the 1807 proof halfpenny die was uncertain, as it was clearly a restrike, with no Soho proof halfpennies known for that year.

Here we have an 1807 proof halfpenny in copper, with the bust from the broken jewel punch and the shape of the ear is correct for a proof, except that it clearly doesn't have proof fields on either side. It took me a couple years of ownership to realise that what I have here is probably Taylor's first attempt at a strike from a previously modified 1806 proof obverse die.

The last figure of the date is clearly a 7 over 6 under magnification, with the filled 6 visible on and around the 7. The clue to this being the first example of an 1807 proof is the beaded border on the right side between III & X, where the beads are only half the size of the remainder.

If you compare the beads with this bronzed example, you can see that the die has now been fully recut in the same area with all beads of equal size.

For the die which formed the basis of this obverse, all will be revealed in 1806
