Not really sure but it's the closest I've been able to find. Boy these 72's sure are a lot of fun. (sic). Been working a little in VT.. I pick up a few rolls of pennies whenever I'm there. For some reason about 30% are copper. Got this one a couple of days ago. Obversse.jpg Reverse.jpg Date.jpg

Scuba. Can you show us where there is doubling? I'm not seeing it. I looked at the DDO-005 and it doesn't match?? Are you pulling the Scuba mask over our eyes perhaps? lol.gif

You can't see the doubling over the top of the horizontal portion of the 2??? As I said it was the closest I could find. Oh yeah, the mint mark could be doubled-top left corner.

This is the 1972 that’s worth having.

That's strike doubling. It can't be helped. Look at this normal one as a baseline and note how the the horizontal leg of yours is chopped off some. When you're examining these this closely that's just another way to tell whether the device is compromised by the strike, you have to compare it to a normal one.

Thanks Eddie. It's weird how it can strike in such a way. Perhaps my future really does lay in doubled ears. (sic)

As stated above, unfortunately a case of machine/strike doubling. And for information a Cent from 1972 cannot have a doubled mintmark. They were hand-punched into the die separately to the hubbing process for creating the die.
