    Please guess the grade.
And guess why I'm extra excited by this coin. :D

The first photo is from the seller and the next is my attempt to show the coin from a different angle and light setup.

I think it is most likely MS 65 PL. it is an expensive coin in PL ($3000+), as it is one of the less common PL dates. My guess is you lucked out, and paid 64 PL money for it. It also has a couple of neat die cracks showing on the reverse.

65 and excited because of the PL designation. Whatever it is a nice coin and whatever grade I still think it is a PL.

Is that doubling I see around Liberty’s nose and again under the Eagle’s mouth and neck? Very nice looking.

63PL? It's not one of the VAMs I'd look for in an 81-O, so I don't think that's exciting you.

I didn't really notice any obvious doubling. Maybe just the photo?

I don't tend to look at VAMs so that is not the answer for what excited me.

I only see it in the bottom set of photos. May I suggest you take another look?

I'm pretty sure that is just a function of the light bouncing off the mirrored surfaces.

    The reveal:
    AU 58 DMPL
....the photos aren't optimal to show the deep mirrors but they are there. Standards might have been looser for dmpl back then but I still think this one makes it. You can make an argument that it is PL+ instead of DMPL. Either way I'm happy with the coin.

As far as the reason I'm excited is the grade and holder. I'm putting together a set of these old Anacs holder and did not expect to find an AU 58 DMPL. It is not a common grade to find with the DMPL designation. When I saw it show up on eBay in one of my searches, I pulled the trigger right away.

I had no thought of a DMPL. I could see what could have been a PL in hand. Very cool find in a soap box holder.

The photos certainly weren't ideal to show the dmpl surfaces-they were better for trying to come up with a numerical grade.

Beautiful coin! The low 6 digit serial number suggests it was more conservatively graded. I am much more comfortable with those than the 7 digit ones which were immediately preceding the dreaded blue holders.
