Wonderful Tets!!! Mine is a 'poor mans' special.....A bronze (AE-25) with Dionysos on both sides. Does Maroneia count???
I don't get it like, found in your backyard? Wow you are lucky. I don't have a Dionysus Tet, but I do have a Dionysus and a Tet. if only I can fuse or morph them together.
Awesome coin - a must have for the ancient collector there are few coins as large and beautiful at the price point of which most of these fall. Good score, and excellent Herakles.
A local dealer had over a dozen to choose from. I picked out two and this is one of them. I still need to photograph the other one. Very happy to finally add a couple of these to the collection To all: Great Thasos coins! Large ancient silver coins ain't a bad way to roll At Mikey Zee: That is a fantastic Thasos AE! I will be looking to add one of those for sure.
I totally agree (MZ, that's a sweet AE example) ... but it is a Maroneia => they're sooo close (Thassos and Maroneia) => you can see them peeking at each other down there on the Aegean Sea (looks like it'd be pretty down there, eh?)
I couldn't resist buying one of these Thasos circa 500 BC coins, so intriguing, anyone's guess what story they are trying to portray.
