OK. It’s mysterious to me but probably well known to others. Have seen references like GEM.275.EP2 for some French coin listings. In this case, it’s a gold 10 francs 1899 piefort pattern. I assume it’s a reference book. But what? Other references are G.1017P – Maz.2117 – Fr.597, and I know these refer to Gadoury, Mazard and Friedberg. I’ve looked on the net for GEM without success. Thanks. I have the book in my library but the GEM code didn't suggest it ... still doesn't. Makes me wonder what is the origin of the code. I did look for the coin in the book but made the mistake of starting at the front, so didn't find it. Should have realized "EP" meant épilogue and started from the back! Cal
