Just trying to get a feel for evaluating Trade dollars. Do you think this is real or fake and why? Thanks!

Raw Trade Dollar, that's a tough one. I see a number of pimples on the gown--that's not good, unless they're rust pits. And something between the branch and right knee. I suppose that could be a piece out of the die. I don't like it. They don't have fantasies big enough to cause me to buy a raw trade dollar.

My gut feeling is that it is authentic. The denticles are uniform on both sides, and the toning lends it to be an authentic coin. The details of the devices are strong and complete on both sides, with wear on the wing looking like normal wear. Also, you can see evidence of cleaning; halos around the stars, which is pretty difficult to get right in a fake…imo…Spark

I'll be the outlier and skeptic as someone who's been burned by the infamous raw trade dollar. I don't like the color, the wear points and especially the alignment of the word 'grains' on the reverse. I won't scream 'fake' but I'd want to make sure it passes all the tests.

All I know other than these Pictures, it weighs 27.14g and the Sigma scanner says 90% Silver. I'll see if I can get anymore Pics.

I don't see anything that screams fake but it would be good to get an obverse image in as good focus and resolution as the reverse. There is some odd bubbled rusty corrosion on the obverse in the area of her arm chest and torso.

It seems to be an authentic, slightly circulated example featuring „messed with“ surfaces ;-)

Real, AU details, surfaces altered and/or cleaned. Dark halos around the stars are indicative of cleaning.

I'm not able to see much from the obverse image, it's too small.

I'll pretend I'm Jack Sal. I too believe it's has been cleaned but real. Nice coin.

So I'll assume you tried to attribute it 1st like I do:D...

I'm not well versed on this series but the date looks wonky to me; looked at a number of images and none looked like the Op's:

    Any chance of edge images?

Better obverse image would be great; the one thing that stands out is the date comparison and I would like to rule out the image!

Real but damaged surfaces. Some kind of crud or corrosion on obverse and almost looks heated. It would never straight grade but I’m confident it’s authentic

Mbogoman and Mainbill are very sharp where trade dollars are concerned.. I agree genuine but has at least had a cleaning and looks retoned by some means.
