Nice one. I love the portrait of Caracalla. He looks like he is puckering up to give someone a kiss. But then again, he was always a sweet and wise ruler, despite what @Bing has to say about him. I love Caracalla!

@icerain Is it billon or silver?

One last question, did you buy it from another forum member? I swear I've seen this exact coin in a post about 6 or 7 months ago. I can't recall who, but I'm pretty sure of that.

Thanks Mat. The seller's label was completely wrong so I had to ID it myself. Took a little longer then expected and totally forgot to input the legends.

Thanks guys when I saw it online it was really the portrait that sold it. Then I got it in hand and noticed the toning on the reverse. You can't really see it in the picture but its got a nice target toning of orange and blue all around it.

My coin is not Caracalla, but it's similar enough I hope:

    Herennius Etruscus, AD 251
    Tetradrachm, 27mm, 11.7g; 12h; Antioch, Syria
Obv.: EPENNE TPOY ME KY ΔEKIOC KECAP; bare-headed, draped, cuirassed bust right, three dots beheath bust (=officiana 3)
Rev.: ΔHMAPX EΞOYCIAC; eagle standing right on palm branch, head right, tail left, wreath in beak
    In Ex.: SC

I have a Roman Provincial sub-theme of Caracalla coins, but they're all bronze.

That's a nice fat eagle on the reverse of your coin. As luck would have it, she posed for me this afternoon, and I let my artistic talents depict her in a more natural way. I hope you like her, and if not, oh well, remember that artists use artistic licensing all the time to add their own personal touch.

So, should I quit law and become an artist? Nah! :p

It would be a more noble profession, although, with your talent, we will still laugh at you behind your back.:bucktooth:
