I found a really nice 1974-D half recently too. Would've likely been an MS-66. GREAT strike, no marks, dings, and great luster... sadly, marred by a black marker on the left side of the obverse. :depressed:

Same here... a 2007-D in my case. :banghead:

Agreed. "Selfish" is the word that keeps popping up in my head...

I've seen seen some of the "Omega" coins too, and some with numbers in the upper 800s... Have also run across the mud pink stuff... resembles fingernail polish.

I have was going through some half rolls and found several with a tink black sharpie mark on the back. Still got a 68d out of it.

One time I got a 2010 half colored in orange paint and kennedy's head was scratched to hell. That said I have seen that same coin three times in my fed rolled halves! That dang loomis.

This is generally true but halves don't circulate too widely geographically. This goes back a few years and I don't know if he does it anymore but I've heard of an individual in New Jersey who goes through an obsessive $30,000 in halves a week and obsessively marks every coin that he doesn't save. Over time, a large percentage of coins were being found by other collectors/searchers in the region that were marked up. Coins that would have been considered keepers by other collectors were essentially ruined.

So many were being marked that unmarked coins were becoming increasingly hard to find in the region. Hostile arguments broke out towards this individual on another forum, resulting in some members getting banned and the future discussion of marking coins being forbidden.

I found this tonight in a BWR:

It's a well circulated half so it's no big deal but I'd hate to find that written on an older coin (especially an '82 or '83) that was in otherwise at or near Mint BU condition.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch I had quite the unusual day. Found silver in a cent roll, a misaligned obverse die error nickel and a proof half 79spf50-6pence-84oc.jpg I'm also thankful that none of the other 399 halves I went through was marked. :)

Looks like I have some serious catching up to do! Opened the cent roll and it made the funniest sound! Had to look it up online.

pre-decimal Aussie coinage is great

Particularly the sterling years, though 50% is good too.

124 rolls of Cents (2 boxes of BWR and 24 CWR)

    44 wheatbacks including: 1919, 1929, 1934, 1937-D, 1938, 1939, (21) 1940's (various dates), (17) 1950's-1958 (various dates), several 2009's, 5 1970's non-proof S mints, and 30 Canadians.

I've already posted pics of the 2 'finds', that shiney 1958 and that 1943 steelie. The only other oddity was this 47 coin Loomis roll... it had a near new 1963 and a 1954-D inside, so I'm not really that dissatisfied.

I hate loomis. They always short my rolls.

I've only had 2 short rolls from Loomis.

Those plastic tube rolls from Brinks are always off though. Sometimes 48, 49, or 51 cents per tube. Maybe they're only accurate on a box-wide basis?

2 boxes of halves and nothing good. I get another 2 tomorrow.

I dunno, I think Brinks. Haven't seen any in a while as most of my banks use Harris or Loomis.
