What is this double or triple 1979

    And the correct numismatic terminology is Doubled and Tripled Die

    …and that usually means it is not die doubling. I believe what you have is damage or contact wear. The R/AMERICA is the only area to be affected and if you couple that with no listing from 2 of the leading sources after 44 years, well, you get the picture.

    Personally, I run a check for varieties on every pre-2010 coin I get from circulation, and I’ve been tricked before from planchet flaws, wear and PMD. It comes with the territory. Just keep hammering away and keep on learning.

    There is a small split in the roof if the memorial. The late 70's are some of the most under looked coins. There are $50 bags upon bags sitting and that includes 80 and 81.
    for those type of coins, I wait till I find another like it.

    Hub doubling on the Die. That's why it's called a Doubled Die.
