The dawn of the plated zinc era. Could easily be thick planchet. Quality control loses to high speed mechanical equipment and questionable material choices. And I wouldn’t buy gold with that scale.

THE SCALE i USE ALL OTHER PENNIES ARE 2.6 ON MY SCALE, BUT the cut planchette or what ever this is called cut coin the weight should be like 2.3 or 2.4 on a 2.6 penny, maybe i dont hav a rare 1983 copper planchette or penny, but i will hold till I get it checked out

I don't think so. My best advice is to find someone with a XRF device. Many coin stores that buy/sell metals have one to check precious metals , but they can give percentages of any metal in the coin. If not a regular, you will likely be charged as
the machine costs around $30,000 when bought. If he likes the possibility of it being
real, he may do it for free. Jim

From what I can see it appears to be a regular zinc planchet that has a small clip making it an incomplete planchet. It looks a little thick but I highly doubt it’s a copper cent.

When typing on a computer or through email, using capital letters is considered yelling.

Salvatore, Gold and silver buy/sell stores usually do have XRF or if poor, the scratch chemicals which can detect presence, but not %. When you get some extra, buy a scale that goes to at least 2 or better 3 decimals places and includes a "weight standard" that allows you to set your scale with high accuracy. Jim

But the thing is its 2.6 already and piece of the copper or zinc is cut off so it should be higher weight no

I think I understand your argument regarding your coin! Your cent would weigh 3.1 or more if the missing sections you don’t have were somehow attached to the coin, as one complete coin. Without the two missing sections, an accurate and positive total weight for your coin can’t be determined. Even if it was determined to be a copper coin, who’d buy it? Maybe someone would find it interesting as you have and decide it’s what his or her collection is missing? In my opinion You have a few choices as to what to do with your coin. Put it in a 2x2 and label it a damaged coin and do more research, put it on eBay as an almost rare 1983 copper cent, or just keep looking through rolls of Lincoln’s for that get rich quick payday!

Salvatore you have an altered cent.
The planchets are punched from a zinc strip and they go into the plating bath. A true clip would not show any zinc on the third side. I don't think that I can ever recall a clipped Zinc cent?

And yes that eliminates any thought that the coin is a copper/bronze 83.
