Last weekend, I picked up an interesting coin that was issued by a Roman Questor, MNACILI, in Panormus, Sicily. The coin is dated around the end of the first Punic War, after 241BC. I will post the coin when it arrives. I bought the coin because a Roman victory at Panormous in the first Punic War led to a triumph in Rome by Metellus of captured elephants. Like the one on my favorite coin -

The MNACILI coin is not listed in my RR books (including Crawford's book on money in the provinces) or any of my limited Greek coin books (HNI, SEAR, etc). The auction company gave Corpus Nummorum Siculorum: La Monetazione di Bronzo. 3 vols, Italy 1983 by Calciati as the reference. I found several examples of the coin at CNG & aesearch.com, but none I could find on WildWinds.

Anyone have a reference book or web site suggestion for what I assume is a RR Provincal coin?

There was some discussion of these recently here when I posted one but I do not know where to find better references. There are some scans of Calciati and Hoover HGC 2 there but I have been unable to find further information about where these authors are getting their info from. I even posted about it on FORVM here but received no response. I was able to find a copy of Bahrfeldt's text on Roman-Sicilian mints(it is public domain, PM me if you want it) but it is outdated and my progress with it has been slow because Google Translate can only translate about half the words. This is certainly an interesting series and one that I'd like to learn more about as well, so please let me know if you find more.

The numismatic world dearly needs the creation of RPC Vol. 0 that would cover coins like this from the various quaestors and duovirs and other provincial officials of the Republic. Pending the realization of that unlikely desiderata, the CNG references are as good as any.

RS, Thanks. Your post has my coin shown on one of the pages copied by Nicholas Molinari .
I have a book on RR magistrates, but I do not find MN ACILI.

I did find a mention of coins minted in Panormus found in excavations -

    At Monte Iato,
Iaitan coins are second in number to Panormitan coins, though extremely rare
on other sites. The finds testify to the local production and use of the smallest
bronze denominations, while larger denominations come from the chief town of
the region, and reflect Iaitas’ political affiliation. Coins from Rome make never
up more than 20% among the finds, and other non-Sicilian coins (Carthage,
    Malta, Corinth) are extremely rare
