I've noticed plenty here on this site have shown off their scarabs over the years, and it has gotten me interested in purchasing one myself. Issue I'm running into now is finding a reputable seller as I don't know much about trustworthy sellers and sites that deal with antiquities at an affordable price. I would very much appreciate any info from those experienced on the subject matter
Hi @Vytis, Lots of discussion on scarabs at https://www.numisforums.com/topic/1018-egyptian-scarabs-date-and-interpretation/ - Broucheion
Thanks for the info. I gave the thread a read. Didn't learn much about sellers, but it was interesting hearing that apparently Hyksos period scarabs and near eastern imitations are very common and the translations often don't come out logical. In regards to sellers themselves, I really only heard lodge antiquities, cng auctions, and Harlan Berk getting mentioned. I tried checking out lodge, but I only found their vcoins and an inactive ebay store.
I was aware of MA-shop beforehand, and gave it a look. They do have sellers with stock, but it is quite pricey. The only other sellers I'm aware of that have delt with Egyptian antiquities would be frascatius and Zurqieh. After getting into contact with frascatius, I was informed that he wouldn't have any inventory until 2024.
You can also check out the multitude of coin auctions...they sometimes have antiquities listed. https://www.biddr.com/ https://www.bidinside.com/ https://www.numisbids.com/ https://www.sixbid.com/en/
Thanks for the list. It was really helpful. Found a bunch of scarab listings after a bit of looking on these sites.
