I had the pleasure of finding two of these today. Different vendors..
So, pocket change please add your detailed photos of this.. I think marvelously designed. Not sure about the words fully, but I think the coin needs a topic. There are a lot of words being said..

IMO…not a good design at all. It seems the designer ran out of ideas and ended up throwing something together. Compare, if you will, the classy difference of a Sally Ride to this.

I have read about Jovita Idar and understand her being honored on a coin for her work, but…hey, they should have come up with something better than this.

I quite honestly do not see the denomination in all that clutter.... Not my cup-o-tea. I'm with @ToughCOINS on this one. This is more a statement than legal tender.

Yeah, I'm willing to go along with the artistic text -- I've always been a little jealous of the stunts Arabic calligraphy pulls -- but it's really startling to have to search for the denomination, motto, and nation.

Good art can make you stop and think, but circulating change probably shouldn't, at least not when it comes to identifying denomination.

 

Reminds me of a psychedelic poster. I think the artist was on some of the same things from that era when they made this.

This style doesn't belong on a coin.

 

Wes Wilson, specifically. And I expect he partook.

 

To me this is the best coin I've seen for "X" to grade.

 

Personally, I like it. It's different and I've enjoyed many of the women's quarters and the innovation dollars because of their design departure from the normal.

 

Personally I'm not enthusiastic about the new obverse either. It really doesn't look like Washington. He looks more like Iron Eyes Cody. Must be the hair style that's throwing me off. Next they'll have him with a manbun or a Fu Manchu.

Good thing the US mint wasn't this adamant about changing the style of the US Quarter Dollar back in the late 80's. George probably would have been sporting a mullet.

 

Time for the periodic reminder that this was the design originally recommended for the quarter in 1931. The Secretary of the Treasury overrode the recommendation. Adolph Weinman personally argued for Fraser's design, but to no avail.

I side with the tastes of the guy who designed the "Mercury" dime and Walking Liberty half. I like the "new" design better than the "classic" one.

This is the one I prefer. In this one it doesn't look like he's frowning as much as it appears in the newest versions of this quarter dollar.

To me she must of been a great lady. The back is awful , cluttered , where do you start to read. Oh even with the printing on the back I thought is was a Foreign coin. If I didn't See George Washington on the other side then it's an American coin.!!

 

It’s fine if they want to jumble a bunch of words together on the portrait to describe the subject, but the denominations and legends need to be distinct. Otherwise we can just say the coin “identifies as” a twenty dollar gold piece or some other postmodern nonsense…

 

I just found out how many responses to this thread. First I got notified. I don't mind the complex design, and the simple periphery. I am looking forward to the grading on this coin more than what the design looks like. So far the 4 I have gotten have all had descent strikes.
