A rainy Sunday morning. One perfect for becoming fully immersed in coins. But all the cool stuff is locked up at the bank….. I suppose I could begin to organize the remainder of my collection…… Man, what was I thinking? Organize!! Me??? Whew, a moment of weakness there.
Randy, get a heavy trunk. Put a padlock on it. I've got three, one I store at the foot of the bed. Little throw rug on it, and good to go. That's how I do it. Not exactly Fort Knox, but not like they're imprisoned, either, where I can't see them except during visitor hours.
I worked months building displays for my collection. Inventoried everything and loaded the displays. It was two weeks ago today I had a coin show with a few friends and family. I'm still waiting for the photos and videos. A lot of work, but really enjoyed doing it. I had been wanting to do this for years, and found ten or eleven coins I had forgotten I had. It will never win any awards, and even here some may consider it "lowly", but my familyand I love it. The nine people I invited were so impressed with so many coins they had never seen or heard of, and how coins so old could still look so good. And yes they are all aware the coins are not kept at home. Not a single person other than my family new what I was building until it was completed. The extremely hot days working in the garage building the displays were forgotten as I set them up. It was my happiest day as a coin collector. It was such a fun time for all. So Randy I kept you fairly well informed of my progress, I suppose the ball is now in your court.
It’s raining here too Randy. I had three unopened packages that I’ve received during the past 2 months so I went through them today. I have some neat items to post now. Lol
So on Monday you can get your coins out of the SDB and enjoy them instead of watching your Panthers lose to my Saints on MNF!
A safe in my house. Not visible not easily found and definitely not easily moved. Especially as its lag bolted to a beam. Basically you’d need some really heavy duty pry equipment or be a locksmith. Once you found it. And it’s in a very inaccessible awkward position to try that with. A long socket extension on my cordless impact driver with it open i can unbolt and move. Though it’s several hundred pounds too
I like keeping them with me, as well. And of all the burglaries I’ve heard on here in all the years I’ve been here I’ve not heard of one where they’ve broken into a home safe.
I've got the foolproof security system. Bolt a small safe to the frame of your car. Then just park your car. Since today's kids won't even know how to steal your car, the safes contents will be safe too. Here's the ultimate auto security system in the market today.....
I’m not much of an organizer. But I’m guessing you should have done that along time ago. I can see enjoyment in that. There might be a few in there that bring back memories. I know I have a few coins from No we’re or where I’ve been. Gifts from friends. Save them all
A SDB is a must. I have the same problem as you - its all locked-up. The only solution is to take good pictures, and try and enjoy those.....
Congrats to you and no doubt I’m sure your family and friends enjoyed it. Sometimes when people see with their own eyes and it is explained, they really are interested and impressed.
Prefer cars like this. My biggest dislike of my truck which there’s very few is that it’s an automatic not a 6 speed manual. They made them but a lot scarcer. That and lack of heated seats which I intend to eventually convert it to is about all i don’t love on it
I don’t know if similar options exist in your areas, but I chose my bank for SDB access every day of the week, Sundays included (bank holidays excluded, naturally). The boxes are expensive, but they seem to have become expensive pretty much everywhere.
In my area we get Monday thru Saturday. I pay $99 for a small box, $149 for the middle size and $199 for the large. Years ago I only paid $59 for the large box. I'll guess the large will hold 350 to 400 slabs.
But seriously, how long do you think it'll take them to figure out which one is the real brake pedal?
