I'm so glad you got to experience that. I was always interested in doing it, but just never got "a round tuit", lol. Now, I'd have to have a crane to pick me up after I got down, lol.
Yea, I was able to do it while I was healthier and smaller in weight. LOL. I did it for about 10 years, mostly old cellar holes buried deep in the woods. Found only by old maps and luck! Oh yea! Mostly found with a 4x4 that got us there most of the time. It's the history that matters with these finds.
Very nice coins. I'm always amazed at the U.S. coins you post. Well, I'm amazed at all the coins that I've seen of your collection, but, of course, I'm more familiar with U.S. coins. I would love to see your collection, it must be amazing? I'm very glad for you, and please keep posting. I've got a very good friend that moved from Louisiana to Germany in the 90's, I think? He's a fantastic musician. I think he's won Germany's Musician of the year 3 or 4 times? But, for now I vote for you as the "Coin Collection of the Year for Germany"! Hey, I've not seen a better one, lol. Blessings, my CT Friend, Kenneth
Most type coin lists have these shown as one type. As you can see, there are significant differences. The obverse of this piece is really too elegant to be just a cent. This is an S-20. 1794 1795, Plain Edge. Old time collectors said that this variety is "common" in Mint State. I have seen a fair number that got that grade, but a number of them had mint caused defects with the planchet. The design relief on the 1795 cents was much lower than it was in the 1794s. That allowed the dies to last longer.
Beautiful and agreed. The portrait of 1793 1794 and 1795-6 all different. I basically consider them 3 types. To me the 1794 liberty cap is one of the prettiest us coins ever made especially in higher grade
I call it awesome! Very nice coins, but you've always had nice coins, at least, the ones I've seen. Glad for you thanks for posting.
It wasn’t EAC grading. It is PCGS calling it an MS-62. The EAC grade is AU-50, and it’s rated as in a tie for 7th finest known. It’s actually an S-21. I messed up in the variety number the first time. EAC grades are ultra conservative, but they make up for it with prices.
Ok, I don't know anything about grading coins. But, I was going to say that your's sure looked better than a 55, I thought? Then, when you posted the above MS-62 grading, I was encouraged to see, at least to me, a more accurate grade for your coins. I think they are great!
I have a special request. Anyone own an 1851/81? My former friend found one while Metal Detecting. Haven't seen one in years!
I don’t have one, but that variety is the result of a die making error. The four digits in the date were punched in all at once at that time. The die sinker first punched it in upside down and then corrected it. The result was it looked like an “81” under the “51.” It is a better variety, but not excessively rare.
That's exactly how I got started, from one extreme... but I never made it to the other, lol. But, I'm not complaining. I collect circulated coins. Some are more "experienced" than others!
