image.jpg image.jpg Hi, so I found 3 coins that I have questions about:
First, I found a dime that looks like it was barely stamped. Feels mostly smooth and you can barely see the outline of the image on both sides (last coin in picture)
2nd is a steel penny..? I think, it's silver colored and sticks to a magnet. It's 1943 (middle coin in picture)
And last is a dime that I've never seen. 1942, doesn't stick to a magnet. (First one pictured)
Are these rare or special? My brother collects coins, and I run across some different and foreign coins here in my office, but I don't know what's special or not.
    Thanks in advance

I believe the Roosevelt dime has been subject to extreme wear. Some people might say that it is the result of a grease-filled die, but you will notice that some of the upset rim is worn. Since the planchets pass through the upsetting mill before going to the coining chamber, this doesn't seem likely.

The steel cent was struck in 1943 (only) to conserve copper for the war effort.

The dime you have "never seen" is a Winged Liberty Head dime but is most often called a Mercury dime because of the wings on her head. These dimes were struck 1916-1945. This dime was struck in 90% silver, so it is worth saving.

The first picture I took was a little dark. It's still very shiny....? I posted 2 more pics below... Still from extreme wear?

"Shiny" is a term that most collectors don't use because it is often accomplished by polishing a coin (which is not good!). I'll revise my first comment. The coin has been subject to, either, extreme wear or over-polishing.

I think the dime has been pressed flat, I would bet if you put a normal dime on top of it the flat dime is bigger.

I would think that this sort of PMD would flatten the entire upset rim, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

It is more likely a fabrication as a coin like that should not get into circulation. Someone along the distribution line shold have pulled it out of curiosity. Nevertheless, send that coin in for authentication; BUT ONLY IF its surface is as original as it looks in the photo, you may have a "set-up" strike.

LOL - that's what I get for multitasking. Not sure who should be insulted - Eisenhower or Roosevelt

He has it in his title, description, as I have "beer lover"......it was meant to be a funny as opposed to a criticism, or pointing out an obvious mistake.

& by the way, Real Mods don't always show up as online when they actually are.

    Does now. :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

Curious, is it customary, required, useful, or not necessary for Mods to post their presence here at CT?

Sort of like a police radar trap?

No requirements either way. We can stay hidden when we want but I rarely ever do.

    Any who,

To OP, the Roosevelt dime maybe a "set up" strike?

No time for google, but members, did Denver mint ever mint foreign coins? Is a planchet meant for a foreign coin the answer?

Set Up strike is my lean though.
