The paper money stolen in this case should make it all too easy to pinpoint the thief.

I’ll keep my eye out for them. I’ve never seen so many fancy binaries in one place before.

Would love to see another postal thief go to jail . . . the more that get put away, the fewer that will be tempted.

How did USPS deliver opened packages? And two, how about the money paid, I suppose the seller just keeps that? How does that work, are the buyers just the ones who are out?

There must be some serious bad apples withing the USPS ranks. I have had corporate checks stolen from the mail.

I can’t help but wonder why $20,000 in this fancy bills would be shipped via Priority Mail. They should have been shipped Registered Mail. The insurance would have been less expensive and the package would have been safer. She hope the notes are recovered.

Not sure what return address was on the package
if indicated was from some where that the
person was familiar with, was this package
stolen in route or by a porch pirate ?

So... no offense to any postal workers on here, but the one's I deal with in my area are not exactly... high school diploma worthy, gently saying.

With that being said, how long before someone finds one of these notes in change at a gas station?

Happens all the time. I bought a replacement wrench delivered to my shop once and all I got was the manila envelope it was shipped in with a hole in the bottom.

My company no longer accepts checks in the mail because the post office will either put them in the wrong box because they can't read, or deliver a shredded piece of envelope or check in a USPS plastic bag saying "sorry". This crap happened at least once a month. And always with payments that my small business kind of depends on.

I'd rather take credit cards and pay the 3% fee than deal with the post office.

Bugs me too, since Excel spreadsheets can carry macros and other active content. But I decided to take my chances opening it with Apple's spreadsheet program. Let's see if this works:

I'd say that's on whoever expected a manila envelope to hold a solid metal tool as it went through sorting machinery.

A long time ago, Dad tried to send me an Allen wrench through the mail, but he cheaped out and put it in a regular envelope with a stamp. I got an envelope with a hole at one end and tread marks. I talked him out of trying to file a claim with the post office for a 25-cent wrench.

I agree but the seller did it. They refunded me but I guarantee that wrench is still in the USPS delivery truck to this day.

This is do depressing to read....still too many untrustworthy people on our planet. Based on my own personal experience, I've found FedEx to be much more reliable when delivering sensitive packages.

You apparently haven't seen my horror story about the local postmasters' episode trying to locate a similar shipment that eventually it was determined, a ship had been used that was stalled in an ocean.

There is virtually no way to track a lost registered shipment!

She finally told me that it was the "final straw", taking early retirement.

Anyone who has been involved with lost/opened mail may know the final outcome,

I have, on several occasions, personally meeting with over-loaded inspectors.

    No reimbursement!

I've personally heard the Nefarious stories from young postal employees (distant relatives) gloating about their activities to increase "compensation", at an annual trailer-park gathering!

Postal machinery damage covers many sins!

They weren't nuclear scientists bragging about their societal contributions!

You should see the results of a loose precious dollar coin being shipped in a large paper envelope.

It isn't joyful to receive that taped empty envelope product!

    Bad situation that really sucks..
I hope they solve the issue.

I had no trouble downloading the list.
