Went to the PO today. It’s near the BOA so I stopped by. Asked for some coins since there was no line. 5 ladies in the teller area, believe some were training. The teller waiting on me says ‘we have some things that came from a deceased collector’. Got my attention now. Carried out as much as I could. I’ll go back for the rest Monday.
Several rolls of 15+ year old coins, mint wrapped. I’ll get to them
    And then I opened one of the customer rolled nickels IMG_0667.jpeg IMG_0668.jpeg IMG_0669.jpeg IMG_0670.jpeg IMG_0672.jpeg IMG_0673.jpeg IMG_0671.jpeg

How many collectible coins get lost to circulation each year when they are inherited by someone with no idea what to do with them?

And one of the ladies at BoA says ‘Oh you collect coins? Duh! Says her mother has inherited coins, some in books.
Gonna go appraise them for her
A great day. Just gotta ask. And talk to the great tellers who know more than they think

WOW! Some days are just better than others, and I believe they are usually unexpected. Very nice.

True example: in 2013 my grandfather revealed to me in his workshop garage a large glass jar of cents that had been stored away untouched since 1974. The jar was obviously mixed but the most recent cents from 1974 were quite well preserved and shiny.

It was of decent size of I'd say two or two and a half liters. The jar was shown to me only briefly before being put away again.

In 2015, my mother went out to help grandpa move as he was frail and in declining health. It was two months or so before I was able to make it out to help with this move from North Carolina to Connecticut. I made multiple requests to please set aside this jar when it was found. All I heard for a good while was, "I didn't find such a jar." It was later admitted that the cents were placed into a plastic container to prepare their move up north.

In 2017, grandpa departed this earth and being I had been inquiring about a glass jar and not a plastic container, the cents were subsequently brought to a bank for deposit. So there you have it. If you were in the right place at the right time there at the bank you could have had a nice score of cents that had been essentially untouched since 1974.

I need a blitz day. I want to find a few undated buffalos so I can try a new show the date thing. I’m just about ready to buy some just to try

Finished the nickels. This 1941 is as found no acetone
And a few rolls of pennies
Not seen in a long time
The 1943 is reprocessed so sure sign of an old collector
    Going back for the rest Monday IMG_0683.jpeg IMG_0684.jpeg IMG_0681.jpeg IMG_0686.jpeg IMG_0687.jpeg

The head teller said they had halves, big dollars and more. It was Friday afternoon, a line started to form, I knew nobody was coming in asking for rolled misc coins late on Friday. I’ll take it all on Monday

Try and get there early as businesses will be eager to restock coins from the weekend. Best wishes.
