So I'm currently going through some bags of 1964 Nickels and saw something caught myeye with it so i put it under a scope and this is what i found...... Now i dont think it's machine doublingon the mint mark but i could be wrong so here are some pictures, also There is Doubling in Eplurisibus Unum, Monticello, i'd like some insight from everyone
Yes, you are wrong. Mint Marks cannot be Doubled Die because they were hand punched into the die during that time. The rest of the lettering is die deterioration doubling. Considered worthless doubling not related to a true Doubled Die Variety.
Paddy is correct, die deterioration from overuse of the die causes it. Look at the lettering near the edge, its almost touching the edge, an indication , Jim
