Well, I don't think Reagan was to the left of anyone lol
But I see it more 'looking backward' rather than looking forward.

Hair looks plastic. Maybe that was intentional lol I cannot read the secret messages...
    Also - too jowley.

I would imagine he is facing left on the coin because that is how FDR is positioned on the current design...I don't think it has anything to do with his political agenda. Plus, at the time of this issue...the only long standing circulating design facing right was the Lincoln cent as the dime, quarter and half all have people facing left...and until 2005 so did the nickel.

Imagine the fantasy artist was too dim or unimaginative to position Reagan facing right. You don't think replacing FDR with Reagan was "political"? Or you don't understand this left/right discussion?

Oh nevermind: I suppose this coin appeals to people who 'dont get it.' ENJOY!

Actually, what I think is around 2006 there was a big push to put Reagan on the dime (since he had passed 2 years prior) and this private mint (whomever it was) tried to create a dime with him on it as fast as possible to cash in. I doubt any thought was put into it. Not because the designer was "dim or unimaginative" but because they wanted to do it quickly.

    And, FYI...I "get it."

you're right on the jowls. the hair is...different, i'll give it that and the reverse is uninspired.

maybe my distaste for Reagan politically kept me from really inspecting the coin (more than likely since i have no personal interest in the coin)...anyway, thank you all for the information and making me really look at the coin.

From our perspective, Reagan is facing "left"...but he is actually facing "right"...from his perspective. I'm not sure about people, but the way the Eagle faces is symbolic as I'm sure you're aware.

The Eagle holds arrows (war) in his left talon and an olive branch (peace) in his right. If the Eagle faces right (our left), it represents "Peace". If the Eagle faces left (our right), it represents "War".

Perhaps Lincoln facing Left is symbolic of the Civil War or slavery emancipation...or perhaps it's not symbolic at all. The VDB plaque, from which this design came, showed Lincoln facing left. The plaque was designed from a left-facing photo.

I just don't know if I believe that much thought went into a cheap fantasy piece designed to cash in during a time when some people felt Reagan should be put on a coin. I think they just copied the FDR dime as is and put Reagan's head on it.

That seems a little steep since they seem to sell in the $4-$10 range on eBay.

I know I'm late with this post, but I find I'm actually looking for this (1/10th) item for a friend. My biggest gripe about the design is that he (Reagan) is almost completely turned around! It's almost like looking at the back of his head. Kind of a stupid design, but I guess if you aren't really an artist, it's safer to not show the subject's face (if you can get away with that).
