Odd 1950 d lettering

    There seems to be 3 layers of the lettering

    Machine doubling or tripling in this case. Flat and shelf like, the letters are narrower than they should be (look at the top of the G in GOD. you can see it there).

    Been looking for this diagram for a few minutes. It is a great illustration of machine vs true doubling.... If I can find the original poster or its creator I will edit to give them credit....

    Any thoughts on the "D". It seems to have three levels (even four when you look at the far south west corner).

    Same thing… the way mechanical doubling works it can show up in several places.

    If it's the same process then why does the D look different than the G? Areas are missing on the inside of one layer of a letter in the O also. The G is typical doubling as is the bottom of the O. The top of the O and the G are quite unusual. I'm just trying to understand why.
