California sales-tax-exempt limit went up this year

My problem with Wayfair is the administrative burden. I wish the SC, if they were going to go this way, required standardized rules across states and only 1 rate per state. Then it would be cheap and easy for everyone to comply. It's the 120 taxing jurisdictions in Iowa for every tiny town along with vastly different rules for taxability that is the burden. If you are going to make an out of state firm collect for all states, make the rules standardized and one place to remit payments to.

LOL!! You are living in a "DEMOCRACY", where there can be multiple rates seemingly everywhere, for virtually everything.

I pay a significantly higher rate than someone across the road from my property, because of my view upon an eroding (by water running down from road) hillside 15 feet below property across the road, ~1/4 mile away.

These rates are often determined by un-elected "representatives" who are selected by government, as departments expand.

We have just been notified that new "zoning" regulations are to be implemented when the regulators determine how many new employees will be needed for inspections to new codes opted into from State Statutes.

The employees generally are responsible to themselves, and the Union.

These are not complaints, just facts!!

I moved here from metropolises that had serious changing regulations. inspectors, who could condemn in minutes, and would remind of control.

I appreciate my "half-full" glass of benefits.

The great current benefit, I've been able to acquire many MS/Pf/Pr 69 & 70 Gold coins, at my reasonable price.

    You?

All states get you one way or the other. No sales tax almost always means higher property taxes. Generally the tax man will get you one way or another.

In general I agree, but there are many opportunities to minimizing your taxes based upon your own circumstances. One major circumstance is retirement. I have done the math, and based upon MN laws versus tons of other states, (taking ALL taxes into account, including property, inheritance, estate, sales, besides income), and MN literally will cost me multiple hundreds of thousands more in retirement than many other states. It enough that I feel it would be unfair to my wife and children to waste that money. That, and I really do not care for this cold of winters anyway.

As I recall, my wife's parents wanted to retire to NC, but at that time NC had an asset tax -- not a tax on interest or capital gains, but on the entire principal -- and they weren't having that. That tax was repealed right about the time they moved to Georgia. We would've put much less mileage on our vehicles over the years if they'd landed here instead.
Yeah, I'd pay lots and lots of taxes to avoid THAT weather.

As a healthy intelligent Octogenarian, enjoying the benefits of complementary seasons, having spent the majority of my life working/investing throughout the world, I haven't your concerns, as I resolved the problems prior to "retirement".

In fact, someone of my ilk never retires, and probably will be remembered with a statement "I told him he wouldn't complete his list!"

Pro Bono efforts are always needed, especially amongst "elderly" who haven't properly prepared for adversity.

I'm just curious what/how/where you might find that utopian environment desired!

I found satisfaction is a function of relative acceptance!

I researched/traveled/discussed to find mine, but I only have an accepting protective partner and a canine.

I've "enough" of everything (including coins) needed!!

    You?

The cold weather really isn't nearly bad as when I walked and ran miles to school in past years when we layer dressed for cold!

I now change clothing often due to working out in the heat!

Probably in different circumstances. I have a wife who will probably outlive me by 30 years who relies on my income, and 3 kids. If I can move somewhere and leave them $500k more simply due to the state I reside in during retirement, I think I have a moral obligation to do so. Plus, I am not from here and have no family here anyway.

I have not had "enough" coins yet. I do not know what that would be, though truth be told I have no idea what 80% of what I own is. That is my retirement plan, looking through my coins and seeing what I own. :)

I don't have that kind of income so I won't pay hundreds of thousands more. And I don't mind Minnesota winters. There are many states where I could probably wind up paying less taxes but they are states that have a lower quality of life.

I have thought about it. As it is, my plan was just to leave enough they don't have to worry about money as it is, life insurance would simply add to that pile.

Nothing wrong with adding to that "pile" ;).
