There was a COINS magazine writer back in 70's named Carl Allenbaugh. He was quite proud of the fact that Lindbergh's mother was one his school teachers.

Here is a "INA Retro Issue" fantasy Ireland 48 pence minted around 2001 in copper proof. It was also minted in proof silver and in proof goldine/brass composition. These are some of the most impressive fantasy pieces I have seen -- bulky in hand and phenomenal craftsmanship. This copper piece is mellowing nicely. :D

I picked up this today - large French Medallion (scale in tenths of an inch). It appears to be for Courage in the fire service but I have not been able to find another on the net yet - any ideas?

If you search for the motto at the bottom - DEVOIR COURAGE - you will come across some (identical or similar) designs. :) Don't know anything about the medal, but saw one description that mentioned a "Compagnie d'assurances générales contre l'incendie". That would be a fire insurance, and apparently it was established in February 1819 ...

Thanks for that Christian, certainly gets me closer. I seem to be finding examples of the reverse, but none with the matching Liberty obverse? Still it gives me the idea that it is probably late 19th century. Maybe a National level fire insurance company?

Cannot help you with the Liberty side, sorry. According to this page, such insurance companies were established (again) in 1816, e.g. a marine insurance. That company set up this fire insurance branch, later also life insurance and others.

As for the "signatures", Oscar Roty is well known for his Semeuse (Sower) design. The other signature refers to Alphonse Desaide who was apparently active until 1903. And this museum page provides the date 1887 for the depicted (one sided) medal. Good idea, I'd say. ;)
