Not my coin yet but thinking about buying it. What grade and value would you give her? E1B76CC9-7F83-4289-9B85-B74F58BD5392_1_201_a.jpeg D3A8CF68-9C31-4185-9F41-D95893231FD8_1_201_a.jpeg

A few things have the 'questioning authenticity' hairs standing up on the back of my neck.

The obverse: Liberty expression, drapery folds around the left arm, the horizontal lines from the upper shield seem to cross in front of the ribbon and the "I" in liberty, the extended foot, the number "5" in the date.
The reverse: Eagle head (mainly the eye), feather placements on both wings, mainly the tip of the eagles left wing and the spacing and width of "Half Dol".
I could be wrong though. Just my first impressions.

This coin is not in my wheelhouse as far as collecting goes. Thought if I could get it at a good price I might resell it. Can't really do that if its fake. Is this type of coin that you like to collect?

It's not a specialty of mine but I've seen a few fake SLH before so I tend to have a little more critical view. Again, I might be wrong and would wait for someone who knows more about this series to chime in.

Looks like it’s been cleaned a long time ago.

Tough crowd @jerryc39. At least they're honest. ;)

Thanks for all the opinions. Nobody put out an estimate for what they thought the coin might be worth. I did end up buying it for less than F-12 money on Numismedia so I think I did ok.

I understand that the deed is done.

Is there a particular aspect of the coin that convinced you it was circulation strike as opposed to a Proof Strike?

Is it worth consideration that the piece may be an "enhanced" (with some post mint help) to appear as an Impaired Proof?

    Or...?

Is it possible you did not observe the Reverse Rim @ 6:00 AM/PM?

strange post Charley. The reverse rim most likely has a small rim bump but not terrible. The proof stuff made no sense

Vf 30-35 and likely an old clean

Absolutely not a proof. Especially as a seated half in proof from this date is a very rare coin. Just before they really started striking significant proof numbers

Maybe cleaned but photos are not good

I feel there is more detail than vf on this coin. If you look at graded examples sold on e-bay or PCGS photo grade you will see what I mean. Old cleaning is likely.
