It means it was mounted in something. Like a pendant for a necklace or something.

and we have a winner !! congrats to @Rheingold in correctly guessing the grade
as VF-30, at first glance and even at the second one this looks A/U the luster is well
above average for a VF example though it does have allot of ware on the reverse
will be posting some more coins soon.

please PM me your address and I will get your prize out to you from th MPC grab bag, thanks everybody for playing :)

I guess the criteria for bumps on wire edges would almost have to be more relaxed. I was surprised, but then again, I haven't been a shopper for one of these!

In the future going to try and be more specific as certain coins seem to grade a bit different, so if there is anything special about a coin will for sure mention it.

Ha, the wire rim (and dent) fooled me into thinking it had been in a bezel. Worth a shot.

I don't see how that could have graded AU, even at the bottom 50, or looked like an AU coin.

It's got to look like an uncirculated coin at 1st glance, but then you see the wear. This wear jumps out at you...you have large areas of smoothed surfaces beyond rub on high points.

I think it’s the luster that saved this coin
even though there is allot of wear the coin
is on the bright side, so I think that was
    considered during the grading process.
