Are they copper in the mint proof sets. Or just the 4 coin set. Cuz I would rather have any copper proof. I’m sorry

@Collecting Nut, thanks for posting the pics of the Lincoln set.

From my pile, I have discovered, so far, several of the three designs but only one which is The Capitol. This makes me wonder if that particular coin has low mintage levels. Found three homestead, two Springfield statehouse and two book reading coins from the same pile. All are from 2009 year.

Then perhaps Air-Tite capsules would be a better solution, if not the best, no?

Here’s some of the facts for the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial Cents. They are a tribute to President Abraham Lincoln celebrating the bicentennial of his birth in the 100 anniversary of the first issuance of the Lincoln cent. It came in four different designs which represent the four major aspects of his life.

The obverse has the traditional portrait of Lincoln that first appeared in 1909. The first one with the log cabin is for the birth and early childhood. The second one, formative years shows Lincoln sitting on a log. It’s also known as the log splitter.

The third is for his professional life and the fourth is the presidency. All four Coins for made in Copper with a satin finish of 784,614 each. Mint packaged coin and chronicle sets for 2009-S presents just under 3 million minted of each.

For general circulation the coins were all minted in zinc. The least produced at Philadelphia was and Denver was the last one, the Presidency. Philly only minted 129,600,000 and Denver minted 198,000,000.

It is noteworthy to say that several die varieties exist showing die doubling. Values are based on the severity of the doubling.

Thanks for the brief rundown on the 2009 formative years penny, @Collecting Nut. It seems that the mintage levels for these coinages are fairly low compared to other modern coins that were put out in circulation based on RedBook figures. Especially those that were made of copper.

All of this makes me wonder if in the future the 2009 formative years penny may not appreciate in value like the Drummer Boy quarters. Something tells me this could turn out not be the case at all (if my crystal ball isn't too cracked at the moment). It is what makes coin collecting so much fun.

  10. Does zinc spell doom for collecting the American one cent piece minted after 1982?

They’re really poorly made. Much less copper

If it shows a problem. There is a problem

Were the ones in the Coin and Chronicle Set copper with a satin finish or something else? Thanks!

I’m not sure but it’s probably in your Red Book.
