PMD or Mint error? Almost looks like a "G" to the southwest of the top of the last T in trust. in trust.
Give me some of what you're smoking because I Don't see anything but a well circulated cent. So Sorry!
Some tiny Planchet flaw or the T took a hit during circulation. Nothing major. Pareidolia. Looks like a G but it is not.
Ok here is a little of what I'm smoking. It seems easy for many here to almost reflexively say PMD. This is a case where it clearly is not PMD. The improperly formed last T in trust has a large number of variations for 1941, detailed at coppercoins.com and variety vista. Mine most closely resembles the T in 1941 DDO-015, 15-O-VII at variety vista but is not exactly the same. The faint line to the left of the upper portion of the T in my example is curved while the one I've referenced from variety vista is not. I'm thinking mine might be a different die stage? What a long strange trip its been.
It is not a DDO. This was the year the US entered WW2 Most available men were drafted, metal could not be waste on anything other than War. The die ran until they broke, the used die you mention DDO-15 was a broken die ( on the T) over another broken T die. So much was ignored by the mint as long as close. I can't see them as close to being the same. There is some machine doubling ( overuse of the die) of the L in liberty and the DATE. IMO, Jim
desertgem I never said it was a DDO. Perhaps I'm thinking of the term "mint error" differently than others. For me it simply means an error in the production of the coin and not something that happens to the coin after it leaves the mint. This coin is that. That said, I'm not quite sure what I'm wrong about paddyman98. I said it looks like a G so others could more easily see what I was referring to. Perhaps my coin is yet another unique example of the error in the T for this date.
Maybe a little Dawn dish soap and warm water will make him like real nice again. That's a nice find paddyman98! When I saw the date it made me smile because I am old, but that cent is 10 years older than I am...I bet your gonna hear him moan and grown every morning when he wakes up
No problem Jim. It's just part of variety vistas odd way of classifying different varieties .... even if they are not double dies.
It looks like a G but it is just pareidolia. I explained it well in my first post why that could be. I'm stating it again. A hit during circulation on the T. PMD
You should know me by know.. I'm don't let go of anything that easily. I just got up for work. You should go to sleep! Mr. Insomniac
All I can say is I'm reading through this thread on a G at the top southwest corner of a T and all I can think of is I picked a real bad day to stop sniffing glue.
Some of these questions are really tough to answer. You say it’s an 015. That’s a lot to go thru. These members do their best. Does it say anything about a G describing the 015 varsity
Cheech it's really not that much. They are all listed on one page (with one pic per variety) on variety vista. No there is no reference on the internet to the "G" pattern I pointed out. That's why I'm thinking it may be a variation on that error or a different die state. I see patterns. I have been searching rolls of the same date and when something odd comes up I set it aside. Recently I've found a unique type of error on a specific date and then another error that looks similar for the same date. I have a third example of this and I will attempt to post tomorrow for 1946 P.
There's a tee-shirt idea in here somewhere.... "Do you use 'pareidolia' every day? Then come join CoinTalk!"
