For better or worse? Looks like they are trying to improve the fake 1874-CC Seated Dollars…

I posted this one and a couple of other bad fakes in fake PCGS holders in Coin Chat yesterday; took some time to better review the Trade...

The first ones we saw weren’t very good; common marks seen on several examples including one for sale on the German “Bay”. Going through PCGS CoinFacts there are a number of reverses used for genuine ones, but I couldn’t find a match for the fake. Of course, there is the fake PCGS holder as well.

Cert has no on-line image, but I was able to dig up images of the genuine certed example.

And then this one hit the Bay yesterday; what is interesting is the obverse has 2 of the major matching marks, but they put an artificial tone on it AND they corrected the reverse with a closer matching CC…

And the new compared to a genuine example on the right:

    Getting really interesting out there!

    Best, Jack.

Interesting, I saw the best (worse!) fakes back in late 2015 with over 25 different denominations/ varieties documented but have not see any like them since. These latest ones weren't very good to start but continue to evolve into more and more deceptive ones...

Definitely an improvement on a lot of them. Got the mm a lot closer to a genuine one. And using the right reverse too gotta love when they marry a type 2 reverse on an early date trade dollar. It’s deceptive for many. But I spotted it as wrong right off. It’s got subtle details that don’t quite match up her left arm still doesn’t look quite right. Seems like it’s not positioned correctly and looks mushy and fat to a genuine one And third star on right side is totally off.

If it has less wording on the label. Is that a good sign it might be fake. I would think one would want a better grade description
