Just arrived today...my first purchase through Great Collections. This is a 1913-A 3 Mark silver coin from the Kingdom of Prussia. This was a 1 year circulation issue (replacing the standard 3 mark issue) which commemorated Wilhelm II's 25 years on the Prussian and German Imperial thrones. One of my all-time favorite designs, I jumped on this coin due to the unusually stunning toning (something often not present on European silver). Very happy with the purchase. The photo from GC was a little juiced as I expected. But I am still very happy with it. Top photo is my photo (which I think accurately represents it in hand) and the photo below is the GC photo. This coin was only minted in Berlin and in 1913...there was a business strike and proof issue. Several years ago I picked up a proof and I feel this coin pairs very nicely with it to complete the set. Here is my proof.
Thanks. I absolutely love it. This is what I need to focus on. Fewer coins but high quality examples.
Nice. I don't remember seeing that one, but I generally stop collecting German coins after 1871, so I probably saw the date and skimmed over it. Some weeks, great collections has some really nice world coins. I'm watching a few that end this week. I think the toning is also dependent on the lighting. I've gotten some on GC with terrible photos that were surprisingly lively when they arrived!
