OK here is the deal, I saw this on an eBay Ad. I thought wow that is in great shape and its a Specimen. So I contacted the seller and asked verbatim, The reply was thus, So I took them at their word and ordered it, yes the shipping was high, the price was high unless it was BU and a 'specimen'. I am not sure what a specimen coin would cost as I do not own one but in BU condition it would still be a good buy and add to my Pruta collections. So I wait a while and here is my feedback, Great communication. A pleasure to do business with. Seller: xxxxxx (4) Yes a new seller and I knew that as this was part of the conversation, Well it came today and here is what I got (My pics) Not even close... so I wrote the following, Too harsh? I see no point in sending it back across the world as it is not worth it. I do not want to open a case as that would be drastic and I think the seller meant no harm, just a language barrier maybe? What are your thoughts? I will post their reply when it arrives. I have NOT left feedback yet.
Well, at least it only cost you $16. I wasted far more on junk over the years. Some things we just never learn. Ha, ha!
Ethan - don't sweat it. It's cheap tuition. I buy nothing from Chinese sellers and I have seen them use a German address as decoy for fake items. These Israeli pieces are available in high grade from reputable sellers. If you need any information, feel free to reach out. My collection is posted here - https://coins.www.collectors-society.com/WCM/CoinCustomSetView.aspx?s=1511
Advice - always search for image. What are the odds that guy was selling the exact coin on NGC website? https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/israel-25-pruta-km-12-5709-(1949)-cuid-30258-duid-90418
That just sealed it, used an image....Learned from this I did....Still I will wait to see what they say and I will send another 'email' with this link.. wow never thought to do that.
Leaving negative feedback won't solve anything. Just open a case - explain what happened, post that link and your pics, then in 4 days you can escalate and within another 24h get your money back. If the seller agrees to pay about $7 for return First Class, then send it back, if not, keep it.
Ebay only gives you a certain amount of time to open a case. I would request to return it and select the reason as not as described and then in the message request a shipping label from the seller because it was not as described, open the case and if the seller does not make good in a specified time allotment, you view the case on the last day that was specified and you click to let them step in, and you will get your money fast and you won't have to return the item. Usually a courtesy through ebay. That's the new ebay, no worries. GOOD LUCK
Wow, I wanted to give the guy a chance......but I am afraid y'all are right...still I will give him a shot.....he can make good.
Ethan - you seem like a very good guy dealing with a clear fraudster. 1) Steals image from NGC 2) Posts a listing without having same coin 3) Assumes you will not bother. Do what you feel is right just don't get caught up in it. I got taken for hundreds of dollars during my collecting years - its great tuition to see red flags where they exist. Good luck.
I agree with everbody. Open a case. A lot of us on this forum are sellers, who do what it takes to keep 100% seller rating because we care. I'd expect it & it help's future potential buyers from this seller at least help them with a more educated idea before dealing with this yahoo.
No more than a day 2 at the most. My very first coin I bought on eBay from Philippines was a fake. I shrugged it off didn't pay much. A few years later I wished I opened a case because it sickens me to hear people getting scammed.
Oh, the time difference....if by morning then I will know....will not be able to open a case till tomorrow evening...But I will give the benefit of the doubt for now..
