Always fancied a Gordian I coin but is it this one?

    Hello friends.
So I have always fancied a Gordian I or II denarius but the high price has always put me off. I have recently seen this for sale at a price more in my range but I am a bit concerned as it looks very weakly stuck on the reverse especially and it just doesn't feel right
    What do you guys think?

Nice. I only have one Gordian, a Gordian III. Not a very good one. I pulled it from some very bad uncleaned ancients. I still have some work to do on it.

There is something about how the surfaces look that would make me hesitate. Like @Inspector43 I only have Gordian III´s. Here is one

Looks off to me. I'd be really wary of "affordable" coins of Gordian I or II - generally their coins sell for thousands.

Is the seller an established trusted dealer who offers a guarantee of authenticity?

No just a random uk auction house who probably have no idea

I agree with above statements. I'd be leery.

I only have Gordian III's as well, but I get bored with that typical Gordian denarius style.

My Gordian III pentassarion. I bought it more for the Herakles reverse though.

That's nice. I recently sold a very similar coin at Nomos Zurich

I have examples of the Gordian I and Gordian II coins. Unfortunately, I think that the OP coin has a copied look to it. The only solutions are to send it to NGC or have an expert review it in person.

    Here are my two coins.

It looks like a cast modern fake because the boarder of dots on the obverse run together and the toning is just off especially on the reverse where it only occurs in the center of the coin. Who is the dealer and what's the price? I see Gordian I and II coins for auction just about every month from several reputable dealers on biddr.com. Just checked biddr.com and numisbid.com, none are available right now. Save up as when one is available be prepared to pay several thousand BGP / Euros / Dollars.

Looks fairly fine to me from the image (at least not like an obvious cast). The image was taken with a scanner rather than a camera, which is the reason for the strange look.

That said, I'd still be cautious.
