Trying to help newbie collectors

Here I am trying to help the people to not get scammed yet a few people in comments are trying to say I don’t know what I’m talking about and I have no proof this coin isn’t real. First picture is my post, 2nd is a close up of the 1916 D Mercury dime seller is trying to sell, 3rd picture is my attempt to try to get the placement of an actual 1916 D, 4th picture is a PCGS XF 40 graded 1916 D from Apmex. Some people will really argue with a fence post.

I don't know much about these but looks like an added mint mark.
I'd agree with you and don't like the color.
This key date coin is best bought certified.

 

I’ve studied and watched so many videos about this particular coin I feel as though I could spot one a mile away. Sad someone is about to waste $2K on this junk. I’ve reported it to eBay and it’s still up. Auction ends tomorrow

 

According to bay records the same coin was sold on July 29.
This time its listed cheaper...but still has a day left,

I applaud you for trying to educate new or old collectors that don't do enough research to not get taken.
I'll ask the seller if they think they have an unaltered real coin.
The listing doesn't say anything about it being Authentic.

 

This is something I mentioned in my Reddit post. The buyer left positive feedback and said they were going to get it graded. Wild guess is that they sent it off and it came back counterfeit so they returned it or worse the seller has multiples of the same coin

 

I asked the seller a few questions.

I find my time is better served elsewhere ( honeyDO lists ) occasionally I get something accomplished educating people is a daunting task and you rarely see results.

To me it is graded too high but then that’s mint mark. Just doesn’t look right. I have 3 of these, all in lower grade and they all look different than this one.

 

Not heat at all, just a statement of fact and not directed against you.

Whew! I thought it was from the fine gentlemen/women we have as members.

 

You don’t even have to argue placement on that mark. Interior shape of the letter is so far whacked it’s a naked eye call without magnification. Rest easy.

Just tell the nubie collectors that the 1916-D Mercury Dime should also be purchased certified. If you own such a coin and want to sell it. you are leaving money on the table if you don't get it certified.

Unless you can see the coin in person and have the expertise to verify that it is real, steer clean of it!
