It's die deterioration doubling. The big tell on it is the doubling appears to move out towards the rim around the entire coin. A true doubled die would have doubling occurring all in the same direction, not out and away from the center in a 360 degree spread.
I've been getting some bright and lustrous 2015-Ds in change over the last few weeks that have atrocious die deterioration. I should try to get some photos.
Not true, some coins have a CCW & CW on the same coin, which is 2 different directions ... Lets use this dime for a example, Liberty can have a CCW spread, why IGWT, has a CW spread . Ike Dollars are known for this .......
Most avid collectors can tell you which mint that coin came from without seeing a mint mark. I'm guessing the QC dept in Philadelphia doesn't require eye exams.
True and those are known as Tripled and Quadrupled Dies not "Doubled Dies". Sure the generic term "Doubled Die" may be given to them, but they are more than doubled.
Yep, later stage die deterioration and almost always from Philly. The striations show here also. The chin and neck show machine doubling but not doubled die doubling.
