You need to keep your eye on the prize my friend. Get your engineering degree before you worry about them girls.

Jeez, the ancient world doesn't even exist for an awful lot of folks, except through mostly embarrassing movies, and laughable recreations on the History Channel. So when I show some random visitor an ancient coin their eyes usually glaze over and they look at me inquiringly. I suspect ancient coin collecting is a lonely hobby for a lot of people...me included.

Some members of my family hear the word ancient and they think of ancient aliens...so I don't go there.

That's pretty much the plan. I'm not hormone-driven, and I am very picky. That should slow things down enough.

I made the mistake of falling for one girl, but she said no. Back to my tortoise pace. ;)

That's were you need to be. By the time your ready the 650 will be outdated & there will be a new plane to engineer. I know a few that were on the ground floor when the 650 was new.

Maybe I'll get to work on the G750 or G850 if things go my way? :D

But I will make an exception if a nice, single, female coin collector comes along. ;)

That was my problem. I was hormon driven and I've never been picky. I just got lucky.

I used to keep it a secret that I collected because I was worried about thieves. These days I have some friends that know but they usually aren't interested and like everyone else already said most of their replies are along the lines of how do I know they're real or that old, how much does it cost, or how much is it worth. I have one work friend that either humors me or is a little interested because he'll engage me in conversation about ancient coins. I try to keep things interesting when we talk and focus on where the coin fit into the bigger historical picture. My wife only cares how much something costs. My son thinks they're neat but that's about as far as his interest goes for the moment. He likes to look at the so maybe that will turn into something.

My wife once asked me how much a particular coin cost and I said, "A helluva lot less than being married." I don't recommend this tack, however.

The dog house wouldn't even begin to describe what would happen if I said that to my wife.

Probably because we are much more lackadasial here (a new word I just happened to learn, I'm not sure I even type it properly or use it in the right sense ;)) my wife doesn't care a lot on how much I spend on coins. More often she would encourage me on the most expensive purchases saying : "if you think it's a once in a lifetime opportunity, then go ahead !!"

    Of course it is !!!

    :D Q

Lackadaisical usually carries a negative implication of 'sluggish' in the 'who cares' sense rather than 'laid back', low maintenance' or 'easy to get along with'. I prefer that we, as a group, be 'easy to get along with' which has not been a regular feature here lately.

This could be viewed as a threat meaning you might not live to do it again.

I'm starting to think that there should be a CT section for significant others of collectors to post their sad tales of being married to us. Most posts would start with "You won't believe what (insert name of collector) bought now."

I guess I'm an oddball- I never had the $$ to collect, last few years inherited my husband's father's world coin collection because my husband isn't really interested and neither is my 12 yo daughter or anyone else I know. I would much rather get a cool addition to my collection than jewelry-there's no history or story to it. I was very happy to find this site last year :)
